Leadership rooted in access, innovation, and modeling a workplace culture of care

I am a licensed clinical social worker, trauma and anxiety disorder specialist, educator, organizational wellbeing consultant, and founder of GDC. My work has consistently lived at the intersection of mental health, technology, access, and trauma-informed care.

For more than 15 years, I have worked across direct care, middle management, and senior leadership in nonprofit, healthcare, education, government, and private practice settings. Those diverse experiences have given me a unique perspective of what people need to heal and grow within the systems where they work and live.

My clinical background continues to shape the way I understand people, workplaces, leadership, and systems. Whether I am supporting a leader, developing a program, facilitating professional development, or helping an organization strengthen employee wellbeing, I bring the same trauma-informed, person-centered lens that has guided my clinical work throughout my career.

Areas of Expertise

  • Employee Wellbeing
  • Program Development
  • Leadership Support
01

Trauma-Informed Organizational Assessment & Practice

My clinical background in trauma informs the way I evaluate organizational environments, policies, communication, leadership practices, and service delivery. I help organizations move trauma-informed principles beyond theory and into the everyday experiences of staff and the communities they serve.

02

Employee Wellbeing, Burnout Prevention & Recovery

My work in both direct care and leadership has shaped a practical understanding of burnout. I help organizations look beyond individual self-care and consider the workplace conditions, expectations, leadership practices, and systems that influence employee wellbeing.

03

Program Development

I have extensive experience developing and strengthening programs, curricula, and services across clinical, educational, and community settings. My approach balances vision with implementation so programs are responsive to real needs and realistic for the organizations responsible for sustaining them.

04

Leadership Support

I support leaders in strengthening self-awareness, communication, decision-making, boundaries, staff support, and the ability to create healthier workplace cultures. My approach recognizes that leaders are people first and need meaningful support in order to lead others sustainably.

2017

“I believed high-quality mental health care could be more accessible, culturally responsive, and inclusive for Black and underrepresented communities.”

Why I Founded GDC

As a Black clinician, I understood the importance of representation and the difference it can make when people see themselves reflected in the professionals, leadership, and spaces designed to support them. I wanted clients to have access to clinicians who understood that culture, identity, history, and trauma shape the way people experience life, healing, and support.

In 2017, GDC began as a fully virtual counseling practice, well before virtual mental health care became commonplace. The model allowed us to reduce geographic and logistical barriers while providing culturally responsive support in a way that fit more naturally into people’s lives.

As the practice grew, so did my understanding of where support was needed. The same issues I encountered clinically, including trauma exposure, anxiety, burnout, inequitable systems, and limited access to meaningful support, were also affecting professionals, leaders, organizations, and the people responsible for caring for others.

Today, GDC has grown into Goal Driven Counseling, Coaching & Consulting Wellness Services. Our work now reaches clients, companies, and clinicians through multiple pathways of support, but the foundation has remained consistent: creating meaningful, culturally responsive support that helps people move toward greater wellbeing with confidence.

Professional Background

My career began in direct service and clinical work, where I developed a particular specialization in trauma and anxiety disorders. That clinical foundation taught me to look beyond symptoms and consider the broader experiences, relationships, environments, and systems that influence how people function and heal.

My clinical training includes Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR), and that depth of trauma training continues to inform the way I understand people, relationships, organizations, and systems.

Over the past 15+ years, my work has expanded across nonprofit organizations, local government, healthcare, K-12 education, higher education, private practice, supervision, organizational leadership, program development, and professional training.

I have also spent the past seven years as an adjunct instructor educating graduate social work students. Teaching has allowed me to combine my experience as a clinician and leader with my commitment to developing thoughtful, skilled, and culturally responsive helping professionals.

Throughout my career, I have led teams, developed programs and curricula, facilitated professional trainings, presented at conferences, and supported organizations working to strengthen both their people and the services they provide.

What Guides My Work

“People deserve more than opportunities to survive difficult systems. They deserve access to environments and communities that make it possible to heal, grow, and experience their lives more fully.”

Access, equity, personal development, and healing have been the through line of my career.

I believe people deserve more than opportunities to survive difficult systems. They deserve access to tools, relationships, environments, and communities that make it possible to care for themselves, develop their strengths, and experience their lives more fully.

That belief shapes the way I think about clinical care, leadership, workplaces, clinician development, and community wellness.

I also believe we have to model the principles we teach. At GDC, person-first leadership, culturally responsive care, trauma-informed practice, thoughtful communication, and attention to wellbeing are not simply concepts we bring to outside organizations. They are standards we continually work to strengthen within our own culture.

My own experiences with burnout have also shaped this philosophy. I know what it feels like to care deeply about meaningful work while slowly becoming depleted by it. I have experienced the responsibilities of leading and caring for a team without always having the support I needed myself.

Those experiences taught me that boundaries are one of the most underused forms of self-care, that community care is a powerful response to isolation, and that intentional, holistic wellness can help people preserve themselves within systems that often ask too much of them.

I am not afraid to question the usual way of doing things when it is no longer serving people well. I am drawn to gaps, overlooked needs, and opportunities to create something different when doing so can make care, education, or wellbeing more accessible.

My perspectives on mental health, technology, and wellness have been shared through national platforms including National Public Radio, BlackDoctor.org, Pfizer, the National Association of Social Workers, professional conferences, trainings, and podcasts.

Beyond the Work

Creativity is an important part of who I am. In another life, I could easily imagine myself working in interior or graphic design because I enjoy bringing ideas, colors, spaces, and details together in thoughtful ways.

I also enjoy trying new experiences, movement, nature, and the calming sound of moving water.

Most importantly, two of the roles I cherish most are being a wife and mother of four. My family continues to influence how I think about connection, growth, balance, and creating environments where people feel supported enough to become more fully themselves.
