How I Can HelpSupport for Anxiety, Parenting, and Relationships

You may be struggling with anxiety, fear of failure, self-doubt, or feeling as though you are not living up to your own expectations. For teens and families, those emotions can also show up through conflict, miscommunication, frustration, withdrawal, or feeling like no one truly understands one another.

My name is LaVesea Clardy, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Illinois. My story is rooted in peace, healing, and self-awareness, and those values shape the way I approach my work with clients.

I believe everyone deserves the opportunity to grow into the best version of themselves. Together, we can create a space where you feel supported in understanding what you are experiencing, strengthening the relationships that matter to you, and moving toward greater confidence and emotional wellness.

Life can feel especially difficult when self-doubt, anxiety, fear, or conflict begin affecting the way you see yourself and relate to the people around you.

You may know that something needs to change but feel unsure about where to begin. A teen may feel misunderstood or overwhelmed. A parent may feel unsure about how to communicate effectively. Family members may care deeply about one another while still finding themselves caught in the same arguments or patterns.

Therapy can create space to slow those patterns down and begin approaching them differently.

In our work together, we can explore ways to manage anxiety, work through self-doubt and difficult experiences, and develop healthier responses to stress. We may also focus on improving communication, navigating conflict, and strengthening connections between teens, caregivers, and family members. By building on your strengths and growing your confidence and self-awareness, we can work toward greater peace and balance in everyday life.

You do not need to have the answers before coming to therapy. We can begin by understanding what is happening and work together toward the changes that matter most to you.

What Therapy With Me Is LikeSupportive, Collaborative, and Holistic

My approach is supportive, collaborative, and holistic. I want therapy to feel like a space where you can be honest about what you are experiencing while also feeling respected, encouraged, and understood.

I believe meaningful change happens when we look at the whole person—not simply one problem or symptom. That means paying attention to your emotions, relationships, experiences, strengths, environment, and the things that matter most to you.

When I work with teens and families, I also recognize that every family has its own history, communication style, strengths, challenges, and dynamics.

Our work is not about deciding who is right or wrong. Instead, we will work to better understand what is happening beneath the conflict, identify patterns that may be creating disconnection, and develop healthier ways of communicating and responding to one another.

My goal is to help create a space where healing and understanding can begin.

“

My goal as I partner with you on your wellness journey is to guide and support you in becoming the best version of yourself. Always remember, in order to be good to others, you must first be good to yourself.

My Approach to CounselingBuilding Peace, Healing, and Stronger Connections

I believe everyone deserves the opportunity to find peace, experience healing, and become a healthier version of themselves.

My clinical approach is holistic and collaborative, meaning that we work together to determine what support makes the most sense for you or your family.

Two approaches that are especially authentic to my work are Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Brief Strategic Family Therapy.

Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, often called TF-CBT, provides a structured way to help clients understand and work through the impact of difficult or traumatic experiences.

We may focus on identifying emotions, understanding connections between thoughts and behaviors, building coping skills, and creating a greater sense of safety and control. The process is paced according to the client’s needs and readiness.

Brief Strategic Family Therapy

Brief Strategic Family Therapy, or BSFT, focuses on understanding the interaction patterns that influence relationships within a family.

Rather than looking at one family member as “the problem,” we explore how communication, responses, roles, and repeated patterns may affect the family as a whole. Together, we can work toward strengthening communication, reducing conflict, and building healthier family relationships.

What Guides My Work

Peace and healing are priorities in the way I approach counseling.

I also believe self-awareness can be one of our most powerful tools. When we better understand our emotions, fears, patterns, needs, and responses, we gain more choice in how we move forward.

For me, becoming the best version of yourself does not mean becoming perfect. It means becoming more aware of who you are, learning how to care for yourself, and making choices that support the kind of life and relationships you want to create.

That is especially important because the way we care for ourselves often affects the way we are able to show up for the people we love.

A Little More About MeThe Person Within the Therapist

Why I Chose the Mental Health Field

Communication, Connection, and Healing

My decision to become a counselor was shaped in part by what I witnessed within my own family.

Growing up, I saw how difficult communication could become and how challenging it was to navigate conflict when healthy conflict-resolution skills were not always available.

Those experiences stayed with me. They helped me recognize how important it is for families to have safe spaces where they can communicate, heal, and learn healthier ways of understanding one another. They also helped shape my desire to provide that support for families who look like mine.

I want clients to know that conflict does not mean a family is broken and that struggling to communicate does not mean relationships cannot improve. With support, understanding, and a willingness to grow, families can learn new ways of connecting with one another.

Beyond the Therapy Room

Familiar Stories and Time to Unwind

Outside of counseling, I enjoy revisiting movies from my childhood and watching romantic movies. I am also a fan of romantic novels.

Those familiar stories, characters, and moments of connection give me opportunities to unwind, slow down, and enjoy some of the things that bring me comfort outside of my professional role.
